Gyms that survived pandemic steadily return to normal

COVID-19 has affected a lot of businesses badly, including gyms and fitness centers. In the United States, 25% of gyms and fitness centers have closed permanently since the pandemic began. Unlike bars and restaurants, no government aid was given to gym businesses. As fitness centers closed, customers started working out at home alone. But they began feeling less motivated to work out on their own.

steadily adv)しっかりと、堅実に
permanently adv)永続的に、永久的
unlike  前)~とは異なり

During the pandemic, I felt less motivated to work out.

However, things are getting better for many gyms and fitness centers. In general, the industry is showing signs of stability. The number of customers rose about 32% for the first two weeks of 2023. For gyms like Fuel Training Studio in Massachusetts, attendance is still quite low. But more people are coming in every day.

stability n)安定性、持続性
rise - rose - risen  v)上昇する
attendance n)出席者、出席率

For gym businesses to get back in shape, they have to offer new services to attract more customers. One gym in New York began online training while other gym businesses started outdoor classes. As a result, new customers are coming in. Most of them are people who haven't worked out before. Vincent Micele, a personal trainer, believes that more people became interested in being healthy because of the pandemic.

Well, Japan got hit pretty hard by the BA5 omicron subvariant this summer, but total deaths still sit under 46,000, and more than 80% of the country has received at least two vaccinations, and more than 65% have received the booster. And the fourth shot, another booster, is being rolled out now. Also, the Japanese are still using hand sanitizer before they enter shops, and they're still masking.

What are the requirements for to be an English teacher?

What are the requirements for getting into Japan now?
I guess you have to be vaccinated with three shots: That's two vaccinations of the initial round and also a booster shot. So if you don't have that proof of vaccination, then you need to submit a pre-departure or pre-arrival PCR testing, that you need to take within 72 hours before you fly into Japan. Also, you still need to download the MySOS app, which basically smooths this process a bit for entry.

Anger as half of Australians in lockdown again.
Anger is growing in Australia as 13 million people ー about half the population ー endure fresh lockdowns to quash Covid outbreaks.
A third State, South Australia, joined Victoria and parts of New South Wales in lockdown on Tuesday.
Fewer than 14% of Australians are vaccinated ー the worst rating among OECD nations.
Australia's two big cities, Sydney and Melbourne, are among places facing uncertainty over when to re-open.
Many people have expressed frustration at being back in highly policed lockdowns 18 months into the pandemic.
Re-openings in the UK and the US have increased pressure on the federal government.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been heavily criticized over the slow vaccination rate, but has resisted calls to apologize.
"No country has got their pandemic response 100%. I think Australians understand that," he told reporters on Wednesday.

I see that the vaccination rete is increasing quickly! Have vaccinations started smoothly in Japan?
At first, many seniors felt the booking process was confusing, but it's going well now.
I see. My friend tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
Really? Are they okay now? I don't know anyone who's been infected yet.
He's fine now but, he had to stay home for two weeks. His family had to be in quarantine as well.
I heard that those who self-isolated at home were sent care packages.

The final stage of easing lockdown restrictions in England is to be delayed until 19 July.

All areas of Scotland are due to move to Level Zero Covid restrictions on 28 June- meaning bigger groups can gather in cafes, pubs and restaurants, although they will still have to observe social distancing.

Limits on indoor gatherings in Northern Ireland are scheduled to be relaxed on 21 June and the rules in Wales will be reviewed on 25 June.
